Checo and Cadillac for F1 2026?- New

Sergio “Checo” Perez sadly left the world of Formula 1 in December 2024. He announced that he and Red Bull had reached an agreement to part ways, despite having 2 years left in his contract. His departure followed his underwhelming 2024 season in F1. Perez failed to secure a single win during 2024, and with only 4 podiums in total this made it his worst performing season. Since his hiatus, “a few teams” have supposedly approached Perez and proposed a possible return for the 2026 season. He has made it strikingly clear that this is a decision he won’t make hastily.

The Rise and Fall of Checo’s Red Bull Career

Checo’s time at Red Bull Racing was a rollercoaster. In 2021, he joined the team as Max Verstappen’s teammate. Even though he didn’t always have the same dominance as Verstappen on track, Checo still delivered impressive results. His win in Azerbaijan proved his worth as a key asset to the team. In 2022, he secured another win at the Monaco Grand Prix and showed consistency through the season.

However as the 2023 season progressed, it became clear that Checo’s performance had begun to slip. While Verstappen continued to shine, Checo struggled with his consistency which put a lot of pressure on him to match Verstappen’s performance. Such a task would be challenging for any Formula One driver, but could he make a comeback?

What Could a Comeback Look Like?

While Checo’s future in F1 seems uncertain, the idea of a comeback is far from out of the question. F1 is a sport where talent and experience is always in demand, and Checo has proven time and again that he is more than capable. Many teams would have Checo at the top of their list for the 2026 season. According to sources, Cadillac may have an interest in giving a seat to him next year. Their official entry into F1 2026 combined with Checo’s experience and skill make for a good start to the season.

The Road Ahead

While nothing is set in stone, the possibility of Sergio Pérez making a return to Formula 1 is definitely interesting. His experience, skill, and connection with fans make him a sought-after driver. These next few
months will be critical for Checo’s future. Regardless of where he ends up one thing is certain: Checo’s legacy in Formula 1 will continue to inspire fans and drivers alike. So, has Checo had his time? Or should he make a comeback?
