The Imola circuit has always been one to remember. Some of the greatest, as well as saddest, moments have happened here. Imola is a staple in the Formula 1 calendar.
After the Miami Grand Prix, everyone is racing to increase their points to climb up the leader board. In this article, we will cover some of the key moments as well as rankings.
Antonelli Crashes Out
At his home race, Antonelli unfortunately didn’t end up on the podium. In fact, he garnered a DNF due to a crash. This is more than disappointing for Antonelli as well as his team, Mercedes. They recently posted on their Instagram saying that it was “A disappointing end to our Imola weekend”.
Despite this Mercedes, Antonelli, and Russell are confident and hopeful for their next race in Monaco.
Verstappen Wins
After a strong start to the race, Verstappen secured his spot in P1. He had a great performance all throughout the race and held his lead over the two McLarens, who previously held majority wins.
In the end, even his team was advising him to not pull any new strategy tricks during the race because he had already practically secured the win. This marks Verstappen’s 2nd Pole Position win of the 2025 season.
Williams’ Success
After a rocky start for Sainz and Albon, their teamwork and skill have paid off for them. They both did amazingly well in the Qualifying races and replicated those results in the race itself. Albon secured a P5 finish and Sainz a P8. These scores gained both racers points for their team.
This marks the 19 year wait for Williams to score points at Imola coming to an end. 14 points were gained in total, putting Williams in 5th place with 51 points.
Many have also commented saying that the comeback of Williams Racing this season is remarkable.
Ferrari Struggles
Throughout this year’s Formula 1 season, Ferrari have had their fair share of struggles. This includes technological failures, communication failures as well as poor strategy.
In the Imola Grand Prix both Ferrari’s have improved massively. However, despite this, Leclerc expresses his disappointment with his P6 position. Whilst Hamilton, who previously really struggled, gained a P4 place. Leclerc continues to linger in the midsection of the rankings.
Ferrari have been criticised massively due to their poor communication and car this season. Although, they remain confident and hopeful for a change in Monaco this week.
McLaren Continues To Thrive
Regardless of who wins, it has mostly been a McLaren driver in the top 2. This demonstrates how skilled both Lando and Oscar actually are. For the most part, the two drivers have been top 2.
Their speed in the McLaren is amazing and the team’s strategy is clearly working also. This is part of the reason that both of them remain in the top of the overall standings too.
