The Spanish Grand Prix is complete! After a less than exciting race in Monaco, fans have been itching for the Spanish GP to roll around. The third race of the triple header combo was wild to say the least. Every driver was racing to push to the top of the podium as well as gain points.
In this article, we will go over the main events and how they impacted the race as well as possibly the drivers.
Piastri Takes Another Pole Position
He has done it again! Amidst a chaotic race for many drivers, Piastri managed to showcase his skill and speed. Despite the issues with other’s cars and crashes, he steered clear of this himself and pushed past his competitors and into P1 position. This garnered him 25 points and extends his overall championship lead. In the previous Grand Prix, Lando Norris secured the win, and the gap between him and Piastri was a mere 3 points. Now, thanks to this stellar performance it is 10. Many are saying that Piastri is going to win the World Champion Title without a doubt.
Alonso’s First Points of 2025
After a rocky start to the 2025 season, Alonso managed a great comeback during his home race. He finished P9 and this earned him 2 points. Since his teammate was unable to partake in this race due to an injury, he made up for it. After this, Aston Martin has 16 points overall.
Hulkenburg Secures Top 5
Many F1 fans are amazed and very proud of Kick Sauber’s Nico Hulkenburg after the Spanish GP. After successfully overtaking 7 time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, he secured a P5 finish. This gained him 10 points and pushed him into 11th place overall. Also, his team are ranking 8th now. This is the best result from Sauber this year and many are expecting Hulkenburg to keep this up, and for Bortoleto to possibly follow.
Verstappen’s Penalty
After a collision with George Russell, which was deemed to be his fault, Verstappen was issued a 10 second penalty. This knocked him down to P10 and gained him 1 point only whilst Russell was not effected and sat at P4. His team told him to let Russell past and Verstappen didn’t listen. The close contact combined with Red Bull Racing using hard tyres caused a collision on the track.
To add to this, 3 more points have been added to his Formula 1 super license. He now sits at a massive 11 points- only 1 away from getting banned completely from racing. This is the closest to a ban since Kevin Magnussen faced penalties in 2024. Will Verstappen face the same fate?
Overall, many things took place this race week. But eventful is what we want! Rankings have changed, and they are going to change again. It is only with time that we will see who will be victorious.
