Possible New leader in the WRC?

After an amazing race in Rally De Portugal, rally fans have been waiting for the next instalment of the 2025 season. The race is now complete after the log wait and it sure was worth it!

In this blog, we will cover key moments from the race in case you missed it, as well as the rankings – from this race and also overall.

Ogier Takes The Win

Sébastien Ogier secured a 1st place win on the Sunday race. This gains him more points for his score tally and allows him, as well as his co-driver, to advance higher overall.

After a disappointing loss last year in Italy, the tables have finally turned as Ogier reclaimed the win.

This win marks a back-to-back win for Ogier as well as his 3rd victory out of 4 starts.

Currently, he holds 114 points in total. This is only 19 behind current leader, Elfyn Evans. Overall, many rally fans are predicting that he will take the title.

Evans Finishes 4th

Current overall championship leader Elfyn Evans’ title may be in jeopardy after he failed to secure a 1st place win in Italy. Despite his speed and skill, he needs more points to solidify his number 1 spot.

During the race, he was 5 minutes behind Ogier. This ultimately came down to him losing time throughout.

Despite this, he hasn’t lost the title yet. There is still plenty of time to recover the larger gap between him and Ogier.

Rovanperä Gains on 2nd Place

Although Ogier is 19 points behind 1st, Rovanperä is a mere 1 point behind the French driver.

It is beyond clear that he is here to secure as high of a spot as possible. But can he do this in the next Rally round?

Overall Rankings

1- Elfyn Evans, 133 points
2- Sébastien Ogier, 114 points
3- Kalle Rovanperä, 113 points
4- Ott Tänak, 108 points
