Le Mans is an iconic race in motorsport. From rivalries on track to amazing wins, it pushes drivers to the max and tests endurance, speed, and skill. The 24 hour race this year did just that.
Many motorsport fans have been waiting eagerly for the race to start. Now it is done, we will go over some of the most memorable moments from the race as well as rankings – both from this race and overall.
Qualifying
In the Qualifying race, the Porsche #6 car was disqualified due to a weight requirement regulation not being met. This means that Kevin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor, and co-driver Matt Campbell, will start at
the back during the 24 Hours of Le Mans race.
When this was announced, many fans were questioning if the drivers could race their ways up the leader board after they took a technological hit.
A Win For Kubica
Previous F1 driver, Robert Kubica, took home the win at this year’s Le Mans race.
He was once one of the best F1 drivers at the time and won the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix. However, three years after this, he went through a life changing injury. He suffered a partially severed right arm as well as multiple fractures.
Kubica drove for the last stint in the race. He expressed his excitement as well as gratitude for the great drive.
He commented, “Winning Le Mans is special” and that it was a “demanding week.”
Tension Between the Ferraris
The race featured intense rivalry and competition between both Ferraris. Whilst one Ferrari AF team placed 3rd, the other placed 5th.
The Ferrari AF course finished merely milliseconds behind 2nd. However, ultimately it was Kubica’s team that took home the victory. This solidified the amazing win from Kubica 14 years after his injury as well as the team’s dominance in endurance racing.
