Motorsport has changed massively over the last 50+ years. Whether it is new rules, strategies, tracks, or teams – to this day, it is still changing.
Racing has never been just about going really fast. Motorsports builds communities of drivers as well as fans and so much more. But, in an age of climate debates and changing tastes, you might wonder if motorsport still holds its place and also importance. So, does it?
The answer is a bold yes.
Innovation
Whether it is MotoGP, or even endurance racing – every type of motorsport remains at the cutting edge of engineering. Technology like hybrid engines, aerodynamics and KERS are now common in road cars. However, they were originally perfected on the racetrack.
Motorsports doesn’t just push for speed, it chases progress.
Sustainability
The constantly rising pressure to evolve has been met. Motorsports rises to the challenge of entering a new era of sustainability. Formula E is paving the way for all electric championships. Formula 1 is exploring other fuel options and also targeting net-zero by 2030. Even rally and endurance races are testing hybrid options.
Motorsport is not blind to the future; it is building it.
The Human Aspect
In 2025, fans still tune in for the same reason they always have: human stories in extreme settings.
The rivalries on track, the risk that motorsport poses, the dramatic comebacks – they are real, raw and exciting. Nothing can replicate the electricity that motorsport brings to fans, not even an algorithm or an AI.
We like to see drama, thrills and tension and motorsport brings it.
A Global Language
Motorsports goes beyond borders. From Silverstone to Suzuka, it remains one of the few sports that does this. It brings engineers, fans, racers and creators together from every corner of the world. It is a massively fast-moving community, who are united by the love of adrenaline and obsession.
Motorsports is still growing to this day. It is not just surviving – it is thriving and proves year after year that it still holds importance to many.
But what do you think? Has its importance grown? Or just its popularity?
