The Downfall of McLaren in Formula E

The 2025 season of Formula E British round came to an end a few weeks ago. Along with this, McLaren have announced their end to Formula E.

It was a long time coming; however, many fans are disappointed, as well as confused.

Background Information

There have been previous rumours of McLaren electing to leave Formula E in exchange for the World Endurance Challenge in 2027.

Also, they aimed to find a buyer before the season came to a close however this did not happen unfortunately.

The team principal, Ian James, had looked for buyers so that the name could remain in the driver’s championship. The presence of a buyer would mean that McLaren could stay, but just under a different brand. A rumoured one of interest was Hyundai but they didn’t buy the team out.

The Future

McLaren Formula E racing have said their goodbyes on social medias, so it is beyond clear that their time at Formula E is over – at least for now.

As said previously, they plan on making the switch to the WEC and sportscars in the near future.
This is quite the swap from the all-electric championship; however, the McLaren team is confident in their performance being excellent.

The Unknowns

Following the leave of the McLaren team, this means that the team drivers are left without a racing job. Many are saying that they are on the hunt for seats within Formula E – and they have good odds doing so. However, a move to a different motorsport type is very much possible.

Barnard is a rising talent who shows skill and quick learning, so teams wanting a mouldable rookie may offer him a shot, and Bird is experienced. This may be ideal for others.

Overall, their chances seem high. But what do you think of this?
