Horrific Crash in IndyCar Mid-Ohio

The most recent IndyCar race was on Sunday. It certainly had lots of action in and was overall a good race, but there were – as you would expect on a race weekend – a few devastating moments.

From high-speed crashes to upsetting losses, it is all a part of the motorsport experience. This IndyCar race was no different.

Let’s go over some of the key moments from the race, as well as the rankings!

Dixon Takes the Win

Dixon overtook Alex Palou with 6 laps remaining to take home his 7th victory at this track. After 21 consecutive seasons in IndyCar, this win makes his tally go up to 59 triumphs overall.

Dixon conserved his fuel throughout the race (one of his signature moves) and this allowed him to pit only twice, and pushed him to securing his win.

He stated that it “was a tough race”, but that it was also “fantastic” and “so much fun.”

Sebastian Murray and Ricardo Escotto Crash

This crash was genuinely horrifying. The two young drivers got too close to each other on the track, hit the wall at an extremely high speed, and then they flipped in the air.

After they stopped flipping, they both crashed to the ground, and there were tiny parts and pieces of the car flying everywhere. Drivers were dodging debris whilst hundreds of specs of debris were blowing around on the track.

The crash certainly made everyone stop breathing for a second or two – it was chaos. However, they were both okay and released from medical examination soon after the crash.

These were the only DNFs of the race.

Alex Palou Shows Disappointment

Palou finished 2nd in the Ohio round to Dixon. He was on track to secure another win this season and to extend his overall lead massively. However, he messed up during the final stints of the race.

Whilst going head-to-head with Dixon, he went wide and was overtaken. He said it was a “stupid mistake” and clearly won’t repeat it.

Overall Rankings

1- Alex Palou, 430 points
2- Kyle Kirkwood, 317 points
3- Pato O’Ward, 305 points
4- Scott Dixon, 282 points
5- Christian Lundgaard, 263 points
6- Felix Rosenqvist, 259 points
7- Colton Herta, 217 points
8- Marcus Armstrong, 209
9- Will Power, 202 points
10- Santino Ferrucci, 198 points

Overall, there were many exciting moments as well as extremely scary. However, this is what we like in motorsport!
