Is Jenson Button leaving the WEC?

Jenson Button has revealed some new things in regard to his career in the WEC as well as racing. He has had many stints in a few motorsport categories, but will WEC be his final?

Who is Jenson Button?

Jenson Button is a previous Formula 1 driver, who secured 1 World Championship title. This was during the 2009 season, and he was an F1 driver for 17 years, from 2000-2017.

During this time, he won 15 races and he got 8 pole positions, 50 podium finishes, and 1,235 championship points from 306 races.

He drove for an array of teams during his F1 career – from Williams during his debut, Benetton, Renault then ultimately McLaren for his final years of F1.

Post F1 Career

After Formula 1, he went on to race in many different motorsport categories. Most notably, he managed to win the 2018 Super GT Series championship with another ex-F1 driver, Naoki Yamamoto. They raced
with Honda.

Also, he went on to compete in the NASCAR Cup Series as well as the FIA World Endurance Championship – including the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans.

His career is one of the longest and most varied one in motorsport history.

Is Button Leaving the WEC?

It has been confirmed that he will not continue his time with Jota Cadillac team in the next WEC season. He has said his extremely busy schedule combined with his family made him opt out of completing another full year in this sect of racing.

Despite him stepping down from WEC, he has insisted that he is not retiring. He is holding firm on the fact that although he won’t race the full season, and that he is going to take part in it partially.

He was asked about a possible NASCAR return, and he commented saying, “Maybe, we will see.” So perhaps we will see this instead of a WEC focus.

Overall, he has had an incredible as well as successful run within motorsports. From F1 to NACSAR, he has done so much!
