What Happened? – Rally De Portugal

The WRC Rally Championship of 2025 has been great so far! The fifth race took place on the 15th – 18th May in Portugal, and all we can say is: WOW.

In this article, we will go over some key moments, as well the Portuguese race rankings and overall leader board.

Sebastian Ogier Wins

8-time World Champion, Seb Ogier, finished 1st in the Rally de Portugal. This marks his 7th win at the Portuguese track as well as his 2nd win of the season and keeps him comfortably in 3rd place.
His strong performance allowed him to gain an 8 second gap between him and second place, and despite his win, his teammate Evans expressed his disappointment with his performance.

Elfyn Evans

Evans currently holds the number 1 spot in the overall rankings due to his stellar drives in rallies so far. He has commented saying that it was “not an easy weekend” and that his performance will have to improve in Sardina.

He secured a 6th place win, slightly over 2 minutes after his Toyota teammate won. This garnered him 9 points overall and added to his overall tally. He sits at number 1 overall with a considerable lead over his
counterparts.

Ott Tanak

Tanak sits closely behind Ogier in the overall standings – a mere 2 points. Many rally fans are predicting a change in the rankings because of Tanak’s pure skill and speed on the track.

Ogier himself said that “Ott was flying like crazy”. It is clear that Tanak is here to boost his points up and win.

He placed 2nd in the Portuguese race, only 8 seconds behind the 8x World Champion and gained a massive 27 points.
