Aston Martin performed amazingly well during the 2023 season; Alonso was getting multiple podium positions – securing 8 in total. However, in 2025 it all went quiet. Almost too quiet.
A Car That Can’t Keep Up
The AMR23 was a breakthrough. But the latest cars have been hit or miss – especially in 2025.
Teams such as McLaren and VCARB have overtaken them in raw pace, as well as strategy. This leaves Aston Martin in the midfield of the grid.
The car has some promising features, but a lot of them are proving to be inconsistent on track. Although the drivers have scored some points, they don’t sit at the top.
Tension
Recently, there has been talk over internal tension in the F1 team. Big names have joined Aston Martin, but the results haven’t lived up to expectations – or at least not yet.
Owner, Lawrence Stroll, is allegedly becoming increasingly impatient with the lack of progress within the team. Whilst this continues to happen, rival teams are approaching their engineering talent.
Even the drivers have expressed being massively displeased with how the car is performing recently.
Is Time Running Out for Fernando?
Alonso is one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time – and still is an elite driver, but he is in the end stages of his career. Rumours have swirled about the possibility of retirement for Alonso, or even a move to other forms of motorsport like the WEC.
However, others are saying that Alonso is not the driver he was 10 years ago, and he needs to retire so that someone else can have a seat in F1.
Alternatively, if AM can’t offer him a good car that is capable of winning, he may be the one to walk. Without an experienced driver such as himself, the team may fall into worse performance.
There are many discussions regarding Alonso and his time left at the team. With his contract expiring soon combined with the car this season, the possibilities are up in the air.
What They Need
There are many improvements needed in order for success. This includes an upgrade to their strategy plan immediately as well as an improvement to the car’s technology too.
Until the car improves, the team risks becoming one of the worst on the grid.
